EverQuest Classic refers to the initial release on 16 March 1999. Its release was a major development in Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs), which had been, previous to its release, limited to Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs), such as DikuMUD, TinyMUD, Ultima Online, and the rest. It was the first MMORPG to use a 3D graphics engine1.

Original Classes[edit]
Casters[edit]
These characters use Intelligence as the primary statistic (stat), although the enchanter relies heavily on Charisma, as well.
Class | Armor | Primary/Secondary Stat | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Enchanter | Cloth | Intelligence, Charisma | A mind-bending spellcaster, providing superb support magic and a few pet options. The best class for making emergencies easy to handle, and for enabling allied spellcasters to deal more damage.
In battle, enchanters are able to bring order to chaotic situations, often saving their group in a fight that would otherwise be lost. Enchanters possess the ability to mesmerize their enemies, temporarily removing them from a battle. Attack slowing spells are also a specialty, dramatically lowering the speed of a monster's attacks for a period of time. In many situations, enchanters can call upon powerful charm spells to subjugate the mind of a monster and command it to do the enchanter's bidding |
Magician | Cloth | Intelligence | A summoner of four types of powerful elemental pets. Has strong damaging spells, along with some support magic. Particularly strong in single-group content, and can solo effectively.
Elements pets are at the heart of a magician's offensive strategy, and typically accompany a magician in all his adventures. This pet provides protection for its master, along with powerful attacks and special abilities. Magicians have a large selection of fire- and magic-based damage spells, allowing them to mount a damaging magical assault in support of their elemental pet. |
Necromancer | Cloth | Intelligence | A spellcaster of death, and life-draining. Master of Fire, Disease, Poison and Magic. Has the best sustained spell damage, along with a strong undead pet, and endures emergencies well. One of the best soloing classes throughout the game.
Necromancers are able to raise the dead, commanding them to do their bidding and aid them in battle. A skeletal servant often accompanies necromancers in their adventures throughout Norrath. Necromancers have mastered the powers of poison and disease, allowing them to assault their enemies with damaging afflictions that sap their vitality over time |
Wizard | Cloth | Intelligence | A seeker of raw magical power. Uses spells to cause the best burst damage among all classes, and has potent stunning magic. Can use portal spells. One of the best soloing classes at higher levels.
Wizards are the most single-minded of spell casters, with the majority of their spells dedicated to delivering massive amounts of damage as rapidly as possible. To aid in their constant search for power, wizards have also perfect the art of teleportation, allowing them to instantly transport themselves and their allies to the most remote corners of Norrath and beyond |
