EverQuest Classic refers to the initial release on 16 March 1999. Its release was a major development in Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs), which had been, previous to its release, limited to Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs), such as DikuMUD, TinyMUD, Ultima Online, and the rest. It was the first MMORPG to use a 3D graphics engine1.
